Transfer (purchase) a Firearm

Understanding the Federal Firearms License (FFL) transfer process is vital for anyone involved in buying or selling firearms to ensure compliance with legal requirements and promote responsible gun ownership.

Gun transfers must be conducted through an FFL holder such as Shooters of Maumee. This means that if you are buying or selling a firearm, you will need to involve a dealer who possesses a valid federal firearms license.

State Regulations: In addition to federal regulations, state laws may impose additional requirements or restrictions regarding firearm transfers. It is essential to be aware of and comply with these local laws to ensure a lawful transfer

  • Test

    Purchase a Firearm from Dealer

You can purchase a new firearm from online stores or from Shooters of Maumee directly.

Most online stores (e.g. guns.com) will list Shooters of Maumee as approved FFL dealer. However, sometimes you may need to provide the address and FFL number of Shooters of Maumee to the seller of the firearm before they can ship it to our store for pick up.

If you need this information, please email us at Shooters.Maumee@SaharaGlobal.com..

  • Come to Shooters of Maumee and Complete Background Check

After purchasing the firearm, it will be shipped to Shooters of Maumee. When it arrives, we will contact you to let you know that your firearm is ready for pick up.

At Shooters of Maumee, you will first undergo a background check as mandated by federal law. This process helps ensure that individuals prohibited from owning firearms, such as felons or those deemed mentally unfit, do not receive them. To begin the background check, Shooters of Maumee will ask you to complete a Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Record).

The background check will be run through the NICS Background Check System. Results can take just a few minutes or multiple days.

  • Approval and Proceed with Purchase

After the approval for the firearms transfer is issued, you will be the proud owners of a new firearm. Store and use your firearm responsibly.
